History of “Volans”

The first owner from the Netherlands had the ship built and launched under the name ‘De Vrijheid’, based on the adventures of the sailing ship of the comic character Captain Rob. The hull was built by Damstra Yachtbuilding, and the complete outfitting was done by KM Yachtbuilders. The second owner from Denmark named her ‘Valborg’, after which her third Dutch owner renamed her ‘Everdina Maria’. The current Dutch owner, who purchased the ship in 2015, named her ‘Volans’, which represents the constellation of the flying fish.

A major refit was done by Balk Shipyard in 2009 / 2010 (Total costs approx. 260.000) and also in 2016 / 2017 al lot of work has been carried out by KM Yachtbuilders such as installation of a stern thruster, cleaning of the fresh water tanks, refit of the teak deck, standing rigging renewed (2018). The hull of the vessel was constructed by Damstra Yachtbuilders in 1998. Following its initial construction, there was a prolonged period during which no further work was undertaken on the hull, completion started by KM in approx. 2000.
