NEORION: A REFIT FOR A TRUE CLASSIC
SY Neorion, a 95-foot classic schooner, is currently at VMG Yachtbuilders for a refit. After a beautiful sailing season, her owner saw the opportunity to carry out a refit this winter and bring the yacht back to excellent condition for the years ahead. Together with owner’s representative Maarten Versfeld and our trusted partners, we’re working on both her appearance and technical systems to get her ready for many more miles at sea.
The yacht’s exterior is getting a full refit. The exterior woodwork, including varnish work, is being carefully refinished. The teak deck is being repaired where needed to restore it to excellent condition, ensuring it remains both functional and visually appealing. Several windows are being replaced, and all deck hatches and rubbers are being checked to make sure the yacht is watertight. The stainless steel work is handled by SDH, ensuring that every detail aligns with Neorion’s classic character.
Inside the yacht, various touch-ups are being made to improve both comfort and functionality. Floorboards and stairs are being repaired to remove dents and reduce future wear. Sealing in bathrooms, the galley, and other wet areas is being refreshed, while metal components are being replaced where necessary.
Neorion’s technical systems are undergoing a complete inspection and upgrade to ensure reliable performance during long voyages. The engine room is being thoroughly cleaned and refreshed, both technically and cosmetically, with key components such as the propulsion and steering systems being fully serviced. Our partners Jongkind Service Medemblik and Brovo are handling much of the technical work, focusing on systems such as the engines, generators, tanks, and piping. By addressing potential leaks, corrosion, and outdated components, we’re making sure that the yacht’s systems remain safe, efficient, and ready for many more adventures.
The electrical setup onboard Neorion is also being reviewed and upgraded. From wiring and connections to key power systems, everything is being checked, and after the inspection and agreeing on recommendations, parts are being replaced to maintain both safety and efficiency. Our partner Jongkind Service Medemblik is overseeing this part of the refit, making sure that Neorion’s power systems are up to date and capable of supporting both essential onboard equipment and everyday comfort.
The navcom equipment is receiving an extensive update to keep Neorion and her crew safe and connected. Main equipment such as chart plotters, radar, and communication tools is being inspected and updated where necessary. With these improvements, Neorion will be ready to explore new destinations with confidence.
Lastly, Neorion’s rigging is being thoroughly checked to make sure she sails safely and efficiently. The standing rigging, masts, and sails are carefully inspected, and any areas requiring attention are being addressed. If necessary, sails will be repaired or replaced to maintain performance at sea. Our partner Jachtservice de Werf is responsible for the rigging work, ensuring that Neorion is prepared to handle any conditions she may encounter.
Neorion’s refit covers a wide range of areas, from technical systems to cosmetic refinements. By working closely with our partners, we’re making sure that every detail receives the attention it needs to keep this classic schooner in top condition for the seasons ahead.
