The refit of Simmerdream at VMG

Another piece of history finds her way to VMG Yachtbuilders. Simmerdream, a 16.50-meter steel motor yacht with a teak superstructure, was originally crafted in 1946 by De Vries Lentsch and designed by De Voogt. This timeless vessel, known for its elegance and classic build, is now preparing for a significant refit at VMG Yachtbuilders. The project aims to combine modern upgrades with the yacht’s original charm, ensuring she will keep standing out on the water for years to come.

The refit of Simmerdream will feature a complete redesign of her interior, combining modern functionality with timeless elegance. This involves installing insulated sandwich flooring with mahogany herringbone parquet and maple inlay for a sophisticated look. Expanded storage solutions are planned, with redesigned cabinets and sea-fastened compartments. The galley will feature an off-white finish with high-quality materials, while the rest of the interior will showcase a refreshed, classic style. Upgrades in the sanitary areas include modern countertops and built-in heated mirrors.

Technically, the refit will involve installing a new Volvo Penta D3 engine to improve reliability and performance. The electrical system will be overhauled for better energy efficiency and seamless power management. An advanced monitoring system will provide real-time data and enhanced control. The new dashboard design will combine a classic appearance with updated navigation features for a smooth and user-friendly experience.

The planned exterior work includes custom aluminum flush hatches, adjustable fender brackets, and 220V outlets placed strategically on deck. Deck lighting will be upgraded to LED for better visibility, and a new sprayhood made from high-quality Swela fabric will offer improved weather protection. Ventilation will be optimized to ensure watertight integrity and proper airflow, making the yacht well-prepared for different conditions.

At VMG Yachtbuilders, we combine innovation with respect for tradition. The Simmerdream refit will live up to this commitment, making sure that the yacht keeps her classic charm while meeting modern standards. Collaborating closely with naval architect Olivier van Meer, the refit will be carefully monitored to align with the owner’s vision and ensure the highest quality.
